Understanding NEOM

NEOM is a giga-project taking place in the temperate northwest of Saudi Arabia, which aims to modernize the landscape into the perfect liveable environment, featuring the newest technology, business environments and a number of architectural feats – all of which has a minimal impact on the beautiful surroundings.

NEOM seeks to be an integration of a number of sectors, fuelled by 500 billion dollars from the Public Invest Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi, this large amount of wealth will go into bettering the landscape and developing an incredible smart city, which relies on a bustling digital economy as opposed to the traditional oil economy of Saudi Arabia’s past.

What makes NEOM special?

A number of technologies which have evolved in recent years will be forefront in all aspects of NEOM, this means secure 5g hyperconnectivity across the entirety of the cityscape. Artificial Intelligence being utilised by security cameras, traffic lights and more. Additionally, a keen focus on Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality will lead an innovative living experience.

These new technologies are being brought into all aspects of NEOM’s creation – marketing of the project has paid particular attention to safety, health, sports and tourism. NEOM seeks to make a large impact on the world stage as the example for future smart cities.

The name itself is derived from ‘Neo’ meaning new, and the M is the first letter from Mustaqbul, an Arabic word meaning ‘Future’.
