Riyadh wins bid to host World Expo 2030
The World Expo, or world fair is an opportunity for a country to showcase its growth, innovative technologies, and the advancement of its culture, whilst hosting a platform for discussion regarding the most pressing issues that all nations of our time face.
The World Expo generates countless jobs, and a global buzz – which aligns with Saudi Arabia’s goal to be a tourism powerhouse by 2030. Winning the big allows Saudi Arabia further proof of its evolution towards this goal, with the World Expo being the perfect finish line for the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative, allowing His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to showcase the benefits of embracing cutting-edge sectors such as green technology and health care.
The bid itself was between Saudi Arabia, Italy and South Korea. However, out of the 165 total delegates who showed up for the vote, Saudi Arabia secured more than two thirds – meaning there was no contest, or need for a second round of voting.
The event is expected to be curated under the title: “The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow,” details surrounding the security of the event will be deeply explored in the upcoming Security Middle East Conference 2024, taking place in Riyadh on the 14th May.
