The Information Security Management of the Security Middle East Conference
As soon as the Security Middle East Conference 2023 ended, the team considered what could be done to improve the event and bring together more professionals to discuss information security management, smart cities and more.
Our 2023 conference took place in the Rove Hotel, in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, achieving 200 c-suite decision-makers and thought-leaders in attendance, discussing the most prevalent issues that the industry was currently facing.
With digital transformation ramping up in the early 2020s, the conversation revolved around generative AI, the current progress of giga-projects, and the forecast for the Saudi Vision 2030. The entire conference was chaired by Daniel Norman, Regional Director EMEA for the Information Security Forum.
The entire conference explored not just the problems, but attempted to identify solutions. Discussions underscored fortifying critical sectors, with analysis and scrutiny brought to the status of the region’s digital infrastructure at the time of the conference.
The Importance of Information Security Management
With Information Security Management being as prevalent as it was then, combined with the turbulent pace of the digital landscape, it was clear that the conference had to evolve to devote more time to information security management.
To this end, our cybersecurity panel, which took place at the close of the conference in 2023, was expanded in both time and membership, in 2024. Daniel Norman hosted the panel, asking questions about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s response to global changes to cybersecurity protocols and technology. The panel looked at the evolution of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and how new regulations would need to be brought into place, as well as new, proactive company methodologies to counter the extended toolset threat actors now had access to.
One thing the panel all agreed on, was that in just one year, the cybersecurity landscape had changed a tremendous degree, and information security management was becoming more prevalent than ever.
What is Information Security Management?
Security Professionals all have their understandings of Information Security Management, its definition that was utilized at the conference was:
“Information Security Management (ISM) refers to the processes, policies, and practices designed to protect an organization’s information assets (such as user data, personas, location data and more), from data breach, or disruption. It involves identifying and assessing risks to information, implementing controls to mitigate these risks, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.”
ISM is typically guided by frameworks and standards like ISO/IEC 27001, which provides a structured approach to managing sensitive data, whilst navigating overall business objectives.
Our 2025 Conference
The Information Security Forum will return to the Security Middle East Conference 2025, and with it, will bring a new plethora of information about ISM standards, and the changed digital landscape.
Future panels relating to ISM will again tackle the usage of generative AI, and its incorporation into security software, as well as ransomware attacks response, malware response and more.
As technology evolves, these attacks become more numerous and more crippling to a company’s digital infrastructure. The gap is widening between companies ready for an attack, and those with no cybersecurity protocols whatsoever. Through more ISM panels, such as the ones at the Security Middle East Conference 2025, companies will gain the key insights required to protect themselves from the abrasive side of the digital landscape.
