Historically, Saudi Arabia has built its riches off of a lucrative oil business, however, as the world begins investing in alternate energy sources. The United Arab Emirates and the surrounding regions are looking to a digital economy as the solution for future financial growth – allowing the country to maintain its high economic status amongst the world stage.

However, there is one thing in the way of the Saudi 2030 Vision plan. The digital skills gap. Whilst there is a rapidly growing youth demographic in Saudi Arabia, many individuals in that demographic struggle with technology usage and digital literacy.

The need to bridge the digital skills gap and create opportunities for young people has never been more urgent, enter, the Human Capability Development Programme (HCPD). The initiative involves Saudi Nationals investing in training and education programmes that focus on digital skills, those which are compatible with a job market making use of a digital economy.

It’s not just the government taking action however, the private sector, including a number of Saudi banks are also investing heavily in digital initiatives as to allow the country to maintain its competitive edge, whilst it shifts away from having the oil industry as the main source of income for the country.

It is clear the country will be led by its youth, specifically, those who invest in themselves and can navigate the future. Throughout the many courses that will be made available to the youth of the country, some will focus on digital currency and the management of personal resources.

The Talent Gap will be a topic that will be dissected and analysed during the Security Middle East Conference in Riyadh in May, moderated by Luke Bencie of Security Management International.
